Canada is proud to have two official languages, English and French.

Gratuities

Although it is customary in Canada to leave a tip of 15% of the total cost of the service before taxes, tipping is discretionary and should reflect the quality of service you receive. The following are examples of personnel to whom it is customary to provide gratuity to:

servers and bartenders in restaurants, bars, clubs and lounges;

hotel staff such as bellhops, doormen and cleaning staff;

tour guides and taxi drivers;

porters at airports and train stations.

The following information applies to the province of Ontario and is not necessarily consistent with the rest of Canada.

Nightlife

Last call for alcohol in the City of Toronto is at 2:00 a.m. Certain bars and lounges may choose to remain open afterwards, but industry standard time of closing is at 3:00 a.m.

Smoking

Smoking cigarettes or other tobacco products is prohibited in any enclosed public space or workplace.

Buying Alcohol

Spirits, wine and beer for private consumption can only be purchased at The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (The L.C.B.O. or “The Liquor Store”) or at The Beer Store (The Beer Store sells only beer and some coolers). Both stores have various locations throughout the G.T.A. (Greater Toronto Area)

Littering

In Toronto we take pride in the cleanliness of our city. Please help us keep our city clean, by placing your garbage and recycling in the ppropriate receptacles.

Toronto is a simple city to navigate. Streets are laid out in a convenient grid design and the city is divided into neighbourhoods. Explore these areas by foot or take our reliable public transit system. The Toronto Transit Commission includes buses, streetcars and the subway which covers the length and breadth of the city. Travel throughout the Greater Toronto Area on our light rail service or rent a car and enjoy the many beautiful sights Ontario has to offer.

For the more adventurous type, head out onto Lake Ontario on a sailboat or kayak or venture under Toronto through the P.A.T.H shopping complex. When you are ready to depart our wonderful city, you can take advantage of our airport shuttles to take you to one of our two commercial airports or utilise our central terminal, Union Station, to grab a luxury coach or train across the country.

Directions to Downtown
Take Hwy 427 South to the Gardiner Expressway. Travel East on the Gardiner Expressway and exit at the Yonge St. or York St. exits. To get to Union Station, take the York St. exit.

Airport Shuttles
The Union Pearson Express
Union Pearson Express speeds you from the airport to downtown Toronto in just 25 minutes, with trains departing every 15 minutes, 19 ½ hours a day. it also offers amenities that make the journey easier, like airline check-in kiosks, power outlets, luggage racks, onboard Wi-Fi, and up-to-the-minute flight information. Get your tickets online at upexpress.com, in-station at our ticket vending machines or customer service counters, or onboard the train during your journey. And use your PRESTO pass for great reduced fare options. Addmission rate one-way: adult-$12-Senior-$6-Student-$12-family-$11, Round trip: Adult-$24-Senior-$12-Student-$24. Prices may vary.
Check upexpress.com for further details.

Public Transit
Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)
416-393-4636
The TTC bus service is provided at the airport. The 192 Airport Rocket runs every 15-20 minutes from Terminals 1 and 3. Bus services from the airport run from approximately 5:30am to 2:00am Monday – Saturday and from 8:15am to 2:15am on Sunday. The bus will take you to Kipling Subway Station. From there, you are able to ride the subway downtown. Ticket fares: Adults $3.25; Seniors (65+) $2; Children (5-12) FREE.
www.ttc.ca

Airport Shuttles
Porter offers a complimentary shuttle bus between downtown and Billy Bishop Toronto City Centre Airport, approximately every 15 minutes. It runs to and from the south side of Front Street, just past the southwest corner of York St. and Front Street. The designated stop is located near Starbucks.

Billy Bishop Tunnel
If arriving from the mainland, the entrance to the tunnel is located inside the mainland pavilion directly to the east of the airport’s ferry terminal. Six elevators are available to take you down the 100 feet to the tunnel level, which features four moving walkways for your added convenience. At the south end of the tunnel, you can choose to go up to the check-in area using one of the longest escalator systems in Canada, one of two elevators or a staircase of 153 steps to get to the top.

Toronto Island Airport Ferry Service
Take the state-of-the-art ferry with increased capacity and frequency (about every 10 minutes) to and from Porter’s newly-built terminal. This ferry ride is one of the worlds shortest and is merely 120 metres across Toronto’s inner harbour.

PATH
Beneath the core of downtown Toronto you will find the PATH, which is a 27km (16 miles) network of pedestrian tunnels. The PATH, according to Guinness World Records is the world’s largest underground shopping complex. Many attractions, hotels, subway stations, office towers and shopping destinations are all connected to this walkway; making it a convenient way to get around, especially in unfavourable weather. Traveling through the PATH is made easy as pedestrians utilize the PATH system map, or look for colourful directions at selected junctions.
