Beneath the core of downtown Toronto you will find the PATH, which is a 27km (16 miles) network of pedestrian tunnels. The PATH, according to Guinness World Records is the world's largest underground shopping complex. Many attractions, hotels, subway stations, office towers and shopping destinations are all connected to this walkway; making it a convenient way to get around, especially in bad weather.
The origins of Toronto's pathway can be traced as far back as the 1900's, when an underground walkway was built beneath the renowned T. Eatons Company. The system as we know it was designed in the 1960's to decrease street level congestion and to encourage the growth of small businesses. There are hundreds of shops, food courts and services accessible throughout this giant walkway. Traveling through the PATH is made easy as pedestrians can use the PATH system map, or look for colourful directions at selected junctions - (Red) for south, (Orange) for west, (Blue) for north, (Yellow) for east. www.toronto.ca/path/
